Campaign to keep Carbost Community Shop open

Skye residents have been rallying around to support the Carbost Community Shop after it issued an urgent appeal for support.

In a statement shared online last month, management said rising supplier costs and increased fuel charges for deliveries have placed “significant pressure” on the business in recent months.

Since then a raffle has been held as well as other fundraising schemes.

The store is run as a not-for-profit and employees five people. Manager Linda Rae told Radio Skye:

“We always err on the side of positivty. Our directors are all doing a fantastic job at investigating everything they can and looking into grants and additional funds. We’re also looking at where we can trim some costs. Ultimately, we’re trying to look for new suppliers and we’re going for unconventional ways of getting things to the store at a good price.”

“We’re doing everything we can to ensure we’re still going to be here.”

Members of the community are being encouraged to continue contributing ideas to help raise funds.
