Crofters seek clarity over delays to agricultural grant scheme
The Scottish Crofting Federation says it has asked the Scottish Government for urgent clarity over the Crofting Agricultural Grant Scheme (CAGS).
The federation says delays in approving applications are holding up essential work and investment, and it wants to know when decisions and payments will be made.
The Scottish Crofting Federation says CAGS is vital and that uncertainty over approvals is causing concern.
In a statement, the Scottish Government said it was continuing to work with the federation and others on issues linked to the implementation of the new Crofting Act.
A spokesperson said it would respond to the federation’s letter “in due course”, including details on how Crofting Agricultural Grant Scheme and Croft House Grant applications, decisions and payments will be processed.
Radio Skye asked the Scottish Government for a further update on when payments will be made.
A spokesperson said:
“Each year we strive to consider applications, and issue offers of grant as quickly as possible and appreciate this year it is taking longer than it has in some previous years.
“We understand the importance of the scheme and continue to work with partners to resolve remaining issues and get support to crofters as soon as possible.”
