New Audio Book – Blaze Dog Detective

Radio Skye are delighted to be preview the audio edition of the Blaze Dog Detective’s first book in the series ‘The Magic Flag Mystery’ from renowned Scottish Author Lin Anderson and co-author Donald Mckay.

The book published in 2020, came about through a social encounter between Lin and Donald ‘dad’ and owner of social media star Blaze. The border collie was adopted by Donald in 2011 and with his new friend, their adventures took them up and down the Cuillin, catching the eye of the media wanting to highlight authentic stories of real adventures on the Isle of Skye. Blaze now has a Twitter following of over 25K and last year they launched a perfect accompaniment to their story, a children’s book ‘The Magic Flag Mystery’ and with all good children’s books, it is enjoyed by all ages.

At the start of 2021, McKay got in touch with Radio Skye after recording the audio version that is due to be added to Amazon Audible later this year, to make sure the local radio station had the first dibs on bringing the audio version to the community of Skye & Lochalsh.

Radio Skye Station Manager Suzy Lee says ‘When I got the message through Twitter that Donald McKay had recorded an audio version, I virtually bit his arm of to get it and messaged him straight back. I had read the article by Adam Gordon in the West Highland Free Press last year and had been meaning to get in touch with Donald ever since. We immediately arranged to get him, Blaze and his wee brother Loach on the breakfast show to introduce the audio version and chat about the book. It was fantastic having two such wonderful and now famous dogs at the station. We cannot wait to broadcast the audio version starting this Friday and we hope it will be enjoyed by all our listeners’.

The story is of course set in the Isle of Skye – when the famous fairy flag of the Clan MacLeod disappears from a locked room at Dunvegan Castle, the police immediately call in Blaze Dog Detective. With his team of Rosa, Rory and wee brother Loach, Blaze leads the chase to rescue this magical flag before it can be spirited away from the island forever.
