A Skye crofting couple have been named finalists in the BBC Food and Farming Awards 2026. Jake Sayles and Aoife Gould, of Dun Flashadder Cottage Croft, are shortlisted in the Best Food Producer category for their rare breed Hebridean hogget.
The couple, who began crofting in 2020, also keep pigs, work with wool, and grow fruit. Much of their meat is sold in advance on Skye, with the pair keen to support local food production and consumption.
Radio Skye’s Jamie McDonald visited the croft ahead of the awards ceremony on 21 October. Listen to the full report at the top of the page.
