UK Music Award for local school
Huge congratulations are in order for Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh on the Isle of Skye. The Gaelic primary school has achieved the highest accolade in the UK’s music education sector: the ‘We Make Music Schools Gold Award.’
The Portree school is the first in the entire Highland region to receive this prestigious national honour, which recognizes a well-established commitment to musical development across the whole curriculum.
Head teacher Flora Guidi thanked staff, tutors, and parents, noting that musical activities are central to the school’s core Gaelic values of language, culture, and community. The school also uses music to develop children’s oral language skills and promotes participation through various community performances throughout the year.
The award was officially presented to the school on Friday by representatives from The Music Education Partnership Group and Education Scotland.
Missing Person
Police Scotland is appealing for urgent public assistance to trace a missing man on the Isle of Lewis.
40-year-old Donald Macleod was last seen yesterday, Wednesday, November 12th, around 3:30 pm in the centre of Stornoway. He was driving his red Volkswagen Golf, registration CV63 LFZ, on Willowglen Road.
Donald is described as 5 foot 8, of slim build, with greying hair, and was wearing a black jacket and a black hat. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3177.
Scottish Government recommending the Flu Vaccine
Health Secretary Neil Gray is urging everyone eligible to get the flu vaccine, warning of evidence suggesting an early and potentially difficult flu season.
The push is part of the NHS winter preparedness update, which includes up to £20 million to bolster social care capacity. This investment aims to reduce hospital admissions and relieve pressure on acute services. Additionally, the Scottish Ambulance Service will recruit over 290 new frontline staff this year.

Congratulations goes to Alasdair Bruce who won the Mowi Media Award 2025. Alasdair has been recognised for his commitment to giving Shinty a high level of coverage, both through his newspaper articles and his commentary for Radio Skye . Alasdair is the lead commentator on Radio Skye’s Camanachd Live broadcast every Saturday through the Shinty season.

Portree based dance company Skye Dance is looking forward to showcasing their dance students at the Autumn show tomorrow night. Tutor Rebecca Macleod hopes the community will support the event.
