Team Otter

It’s been a landmark year for the youngsters of Team Otter Broadford.

The primary school group successfully campaigned to replace single-use plastic bags at their school with reusable bowls, while the high school team visited thirteen schools across Skye and Lochalsh—delivering environmental talks in both English and Gaelic.

The group also played a key role in protecting local wildlife; using camera traps to document otters, they helped halt plans for a construction camp on undisturbed land. They’ll wrap up their busy year with a Christmas Quiz at a local hotel to raise funds for the Scottish Entanglement Alliance.

Karate/Kickboxing

Freestyle karate and kickboxing students across the region are celebrating after a gruelling weekend of belt gradings for IFA Skye and Lochalsh.

Examined by four-time World Kickboxing Champion Kash ‘The Flash’ Gill, fifty-eight students from Broadford, Kyle, and Portree were put through their paces in techniques, sparring, and fitness.

The highlight of the weekend was Saturday’s marathon assessment, where Black Belt candidates were on the go for five hours—finishing with intense contact sparring against three opponents at once.

The results were a clean sweep, with a one-hundred-percent pass rate. Highlights included five ‘A’ grades, two students earning their second Black Belt, and one student achieving her first.

Now in its seventeenth year, the club continues to go from strength to strength. Congratulations to all who graded—the hard work starts again now, with the next session scheduled for early summer twenty-twenty-six.
