Radio Skye launches Youth Space training scheme

Radio Skye is delighted to announce the launch of our brand new Youth Space training scheme for young people across Skye and Lochalsh.

Whether you want to follow a career in broadcasting and media, or just want to grow your confidence and learn new skills – this could be the start you need. Our Youth Space Mentor will teach you about media broadcasting, production, interview techniques, managing social media, podcasting and much more. There is no expectation to broadcast live but this will be an option for those who want to give it a try.

The free training scheme is open to young people aged 16 to 24 years old who live across Skye & Lochalsh and will be tailored to each individual; developing skills that are transferable, helping young people gain confidence, showcasing each individual voice, improving self-esteem and helping to combat social anxieties.

Radio Skye Youth Space is funded by Highland Care Initiative and sponsored by Isle of Skye Sea Salt Company.

Meet our Youth Space Mentor: Robert John MacInnes

Robert joined Radio Skye after finishing school aged 17. Now aged 24, he currently presents ‘Friday Night Trad’ and our Friday Anthems shows, along with being a Breakfast Show and Drivetime presenter. Robert comes from Kishorn and attended the National Centre of Excellent in Traditional Music at Plockton High School as a singer and traditional musician. With experience not just in radio broadcasting but also in TV presenting, social media managing, communications, and teaching music and media to young people, we’re delighted to welcome Robert to the Radio Skye team!
