Window smashed at Portree restaurant
The window of Cuchullin in Portree has been damaged.
The incident happened just before 11pm on Saturday night.

The restaurant has thanked staff from the Portree Hotel opposite who helped with make-shift repairs.

Area Manager Laura McNaughton told Radio Skye how it unfolded.
“Calum (Gillies) got a call from Campbell Dickson of the Portree Hotel. The night porter had heard the crash. Someone had been in the pubs and, on their way past, put their foot through the window.
“By the time Calum got here, Campbell and Hugo (Lamb) were already patching it up, which was lovely support from neighbours.
“They’ve put a bit of clear plastic over it and taped the major cracks which go from left to right and top to bottom. It is a large hole. The entire pane will have to be replaced.”
“We have incredible neighbours. We’re very lucky. The Tongadale staff were really supportive as well, so there’s a silver lining to it.”
Laura shared the news on Facebook over the weekend.

Laura said the repair work will come at a cost.
“We’ve only just taken over the Cuchullin lease this year. It hasn’t even been six months yet and we’ll be onto the insurance already.
“Our landlord, Jans is being super supportive and providing us with some help.”
“It’s an old building so the window is not a perfect rectangle. So it’s an Inverness glazier that has to come and replace it. Unfortunately, it probably won’t happen as quickly as we like.”
The restaurant opened in early March after a refit of the building. Laura said they’re pleased with how it’s gone so far.
“We’ve had a pretty busy start with great local support. It’s gone really well. It just feels like a bit of a kick in the teeth if someone’s doing this locally. You’ve got to try and not complain about it too much and see the positives in it.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are investigating a vandalism which occurred at a premises in Somerled Square, Portree, around 11pm on Saturday, 16 May, 2026.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0007 of Sunday, 17 May.”
