Skye couple “humbled” by generosity shown in memory of son
A Skye couple who are taking a fundraising challenge in memory of their young son who died last year have said they have been incredibly humbled by the generosity shown by the local community.
Ruth and Peter Morrison’s son Harris died in November 2023 aged nine after living bravely with cancer for several years.
On 2nd September, Ruth, and Peter along with two friends will take on the West Highland Way challenge across seven days to raise money for seven different charities that helped them when they most needed support.

Ruth and Peter said they want to give back to the charities as they continue to support families going through the same journey as them.
To date they have raised £8,860 for their chosen charities
Speaking to Radio Skye, Ruth Morrison said she had been moved by the generosity towards their fundraising walk.

Minginish to hold housing event
An event exploring the potential of a community land purchase and plans affordable housing in the Minginish area is set to take place next week.
The communities Housing Trust will host the drop-in on the proposals for affordable housing in Minginish and the potential community purchase of land at Portnalong Pier.
Members of the Communities Housing Trust and the Minginish Community Association will be in attendance at the event to discuss the plans.
The drop in will be held at Minginish Community Hall between 1pm and 7pm on Thursday 11th July.

Raasay fundraiser generates close to £2,000 for RNLI
The Portree RNLI crew has expressed its gratitude to the people of Raasay who have raised close to £2,000 for the live-saving charity.
The funds were raised through an evening of music recently held at Raasay Community Hall where the Wee Street Band performed.

Ann Oliphant presented David Beaton of the Portree RNLI (both pictured) with a donation of £1,919.24 raised from the music night.
A spokesperson for the Portree lifeboat said they are forever grateful to the community in Raasay for all their fundraising efforts.

Raasay gets set for Gala Day
Preparations, meanwhile, are underway for the Raasay Gala Day which will be held on the island on Saturday 20th July.
A race up Dun Caan – or Temptation Hill will take place as part of the festivities, while other attraction will include the Great Raasay Bake Off competition, a tug of war and a Raft Race involving the Portree RNLI
A variety of food and drink, children’s games, and stalls will also be on offer across the course of the event.
