Young Skye rugby player to walk out with Scotland team at Murrayfield

Skye rugby youngster set for Murrayfield dream

A young rugby player from Portree will walk out with Scotland when they take on France in the Six Nations on Saturday.

Eight-year-old Archie Morrison, who plays for Skye Rugby, was chosen through a ballot after being nominated by club President Kelly Bow. The opportunity means he’ll be in the tunnel with the players, before heading out onto the turf to take part in the anthem.

Speaking to Radio Skye, Archie had a message for Kelly.

“Thank you a lot for letting us go to it.”

“I’m excited. I’m going to be singing Flower of Scotland.”

Archie is part of the Skye Rugby set-up which includes youth training on Thursday nights in Portree.

He says it’s the physical side of the game which he enjoys the most.

“It’s quite competitive when people come in for the tackles.”

Archie will be joined by his mum and dad and his brother for the big game.

Mum Dawn Daughtrey said:
“We are all super excited. It’s unbelievable. I’m so proud of him. He’s absolutely delighted. ”

Skye Rugby Club President, Kelly Bow said:
“Archie has been such an exceptional little player since he first started with us, he’s got this contagious enthusiasm at training and has really become a scholar of the game.
“He always gives me a complete breakdown of every game he watches and he’s so spot on with his observations. It’s for these reasons and more that Archie was our first choice to be mascot.
“With his natural ability, exemplary attitude and drive, the next time he steps out onto the grass at Murrayfield, it’ll be as a player.”
