A man who was found dead on a bus in Portree has been identified as Graham Soave from Forfar.

Police were called to Somerled Square on Monday evening after reports of an unresponsive man on the 915 Citylink service.

Mr Soave’s family confirmed his death in a post on social media.

They said: “It is with great sadness today that we have lost Graham Soave. A dear Father, Grandson, Nephew, Brother, Uncle and cousin (sic).”

Police Scotland said the death was being treated as unexplained but there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

A passenger on the bus told Radio Skye that Mr Soave had boarded in Glasgow with another man.

The passenger said both men appeared quieter after Fort William and that they believed they had fallen asleep.

They said the other man got off at Kyleakin, while Mr Soave remained on the bus.

On arrival in Portree, the passenger said they noticed Mr Soave was not getting up and, along with another passenger, tried to get a response from him.

When he did not respond, they alerted the bus driver.

It is undetsood Mr Soave lived in Skye for a time and attended Portree High School.

A Scottish Citylink spokesperson said:

“We can confirm that a passenger was found unresponsive on board one of our services on Monday evening and sadly passed away. We are deeply saddened by this news, and our thoughts are with the passenger’s family and loved ones at this very difficult time. We have been working closely with the emergency services and continue to support Police Scotland with their enquiries into this tragic incident.”

Mr Soave had a number of previous convictions.

In April 2025, The Courier reported that he was sentenced to 14 months in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a woman at her home in Dundee and punching a bus passenger.

In 2017, Mr Soave was jailed for seven months after admitting breaking into a woman’s home in Forfar and stealing items while on bail.

His solicitor told the court at the time that Mr Soave had been taking positive steps towards refraining from substance misuse, but had returned to his “old ways”.

In 2018, he was also jailed following an incident at a Forfar shop involving racially aggravated behaviour.
